Fall is here
Fall is now here so lets embrace it. The colours are amazing outside right now so we should make the best of them before the snow covers it all up. My tip today is to go and buy a mum plant. Instead of putting it in a pot on your deck, plant it. Plant it in a place in your garden that is empty and it will come up beautiful next. You should also be thinking spring and plant bulbs near the mum. The spring flowers will be gone before your mum comes up so it will give you flowers all season long.

Boys will be boys
I believe that a child's room should always be fun and cheerful and capture that child's interests.
My son Pearson is a lot of fun, he does everything fast and crazy. I chose bright blue and white to capture the loud part of him and chose a darker blue to maybe calm him down.
He was interested in "Cars " and "Hot wheels".
So I mixed it up so he got the best of both worlds.
I made the jean curtains to have the masculine feeling and tie in the different blues.
I painted different size and colour blocks to create interest on the wall. I was lucky to find some cute shelves and hot wheel stickers to complete the look.

I used a Cars pinata in the large colour block . The 3D image is fun and exciting for any child's room.
Flat pictures are not the only things that can be hung, be creative , you will be surprised what you will find.

Gardens

Designing and making a new garden are my favorite things to do in the summer. I also enjoy the up keep. I have homes that I keep beautiful through out the gardening season.
The main tip for today is if you check your gardens often for weeds and deadheads then it is not so difficult and overwhelming.
A path in a garden always creates interest. Another tip is to always put plastic or garden tarp under a path to prevent weeds.
A path should lead to a focal point or a way out of the garden. A focal point could be anything from a bench to a special grouping of flowers.
In this garden the path leads you past a bird bath, through the beautiful flowers onto a little seating area.
As fall approaches this is a great time to decide where your spring bulbs should be placed. Now that all the summer flowers have blooms you will see the space between each flower and where the spring bulbs will look the nicest. Never be afraid to plant because a flower can always be moved.

simple elegance

When planning a wedding, every woman has their own dreams on how it should look. I have decorated many weddings and most like the idea of simple and elegant.
This pew marker looked simply beautiful. The lime green orchid looked amazing set into the large hydrangea head. All placed softly into a velum cone hung with organza ribbon. Very easy to make and very stunning to show at any wedding. This is gorgeous in fresh or artificial flowers.
The bride had a large wedding party. There were five on either side. It was a challenge to keep the focus on the bride and groom. After the ceremony I took the pew markers to the
reception hall. I placed one in the middle of the table. This draws the eye to the true focus of the wedding, the bride and groom.
The soft glow of the lights through the organza material on the head table added to the elegant feel of this wedding. Placing a backdrop behind the head table creates such a nice picture for any bride. Adding a touch of grape vine just added to the simple look.So many people love the idea of decorating there own wedding. It is a wonderful feeling to have done it yourself . Just remember it is your day to enjoy, so get lots of help so it runs smoothly.

Afraid of the dark
Many people are afraid to use dark colours in their home. What they do not realize is that darker colours give a warm feel through out the home. When people think Brown they think dark. Brown is one of the most comforting and soothing colours. It reminds us of creamy coffee and chocolate. Brown also gives an earthy feeling to a room .
The kitchen is the most used room in the house, therefor it should be comfortable to be in. I used a rich burgundy red with a brown wash to tone it down. The furniture is all chocolate browns to complement the reds. I painted the living room a dark chocolate brown and added red as the accent pieces (curtains, carpet, throw, and pillows.) This ties both rooms together without having to paint all the rooms the same colour.

If you are still afraid to try dark colours, then just do one accent wall. This will give you a new comfortable look without going out of your comfort zone. Then pull those colours out for your accent pieces.

I am always up for a challenge so if you have any decorating questions or thoughts on your place just email me and I would be happy to give my advice .

Beautiful inside and out
Summer time is mostly spent outdoors making your deck or gardens look beautiful. Through my years of experience in many different fields I can make the inside and outside of your house just the way you dreamed.
In the above room I chose a soft taupe as the owners do not like bold colours. The accent wall is a plaster technique that creates interest in the room. It gives texture to the wall and the brown wash over the taupe gives it depth. Only one wall was done in this technique so it becomes the focus.
Staging a room is not always just for the purpose of resale. A staged home looks very organized and put together. It is very important to a room to have a focal point and harmony.
The above room is the Master Bedroom. The focal point is the bed. I framed the bed with curtains and pictures on either side of the bed making the room formal yet very inviting.
In the past year I have completed many rooms. Including painting, specialty focal walls, staging rooms, decorating, floral pieces and more. I enjoy my work and look forward to showing you more of my unique rooms.

Spring clean up for your garden
Spring is almost here and I am sure we are all wanting it sooner than later.
Here are a few pointers so you are ready for gardening when it is time. Do your clean up as soon as the weather is nice enough. Do not wait for "planting day" or you will waste your time cleaning instead of enjoying the planting. Cut down all the dead grasses and plants now. You should not have any weeds yet so just clean out the dead leaves etc. and you are ready to go. The safest time to start planting is after May 24Th. So you have some time to get organized. If you know that you would like to move some things around, early spring is the best time.
Make a map of your garden and keep it handy when you are buying plants. Always remember to look at colours and size and space them out well. Your flowers will show off better if they are not beside the same type or colour.
Have fun with it, flowers can always be moved around, don't be afraid.
